Solution where the equipment dispense 2 labels on the barrels.
Customer needs:
The customer wanted a solution to dispense large labels on the side of barrels. Several different sizes of labels are used. They can be up to 190mm high and 300mm long.
The customer needed to dispense 2 labels on each barrel, and it was essential that the labels were positioned in relation to the barrel's filler spout.
The barrels are 200 liters and have a diameter of 58,5cm. They move on transport rollers, that can handle 8 pcs.
The solution:
We designed a device for wrap around labelling.
A sensor detects that barrels are on their way from the production line, and a brake under the conveyor ensures that only one barrel is driven forward at a time.
The barrel is gripped by powerful air cylinders and steered towards a center-mounted wheel.
The wheel causes the barrel to rotate and at the same time a censor checks where the barrel's filler spout is located. When the barrel is in the correct position, 2 Elmoprint SDA dispensers dispense labels on the barrel side, and the labels are pressed into place via brush or sponge roller.
The placement of the labels is recipe-based, so it is easy to change to labelling with different label sizes or to other label placements on the barrels.
The labels are placed with an accuracy of ±1mm, and the device can handle label sizes up to 250x350mm.
It takes about 30 seconds to label a barrel.
